Horseback riding is a wonderful sport and hobby for people of all ages.

People ride horses for all different reasons. Some grew up riding and it’s been a part of their life for as long as they can remember. Others found this hobby later in life, but quickly realized how much fun it is. There are quite a few benefits to climbing into the saddle- both physical and mental. Once you catch the horse bug, you’re likely to be hooked for life.

In previous eras, horses were a necessary part of life. Families needed them to work in the fields, drive them places, and even carry logs out of the forest for firewood. Nowadays, most people keep horses for pleasure. They ride or compete in various disciplines like dressage, show jumping, barrel racing, or trail riding. Most modern equestrians own horses because of their love for them.

As mentioned, people ride for all different reasons. For some, they enjoy the physical aspect. Horseback riding can be great exercise. Many enjoy the community and friends they make. There’s no one quite like a barn buddy! It’s also been said by many that horses are therapeutical. Riding is a great stress release for them. Those that like the outdoors and the farm lifestyle may find themselves drawn to horses. Others who thrive in competitive sports enjoy shows and winning ribbons.

There are also clubs and associations that offer guidance on certain breeds and disciplines. Once you find your barn tribe, you’ll be set. There’s something so enjoyable about saddling up on a Saturday or Sunday morning and hitting the trails with a group of your best friends. It’s probably because like you they have the horse bug. There’s always something to talk about.

Many know exactly why they ride. It’s clear as day! They can’t imagine life without their four-legged friend. How about you… why do you ride?
