Tennessee Walking Horse

A truly remarkable breed, these horses were developed on Southern farms and plantations. Their riders needed a comfortable horse that they could spend hours on each day! They’re most known for their running walk. In this gait, the horse can achieve speeds of 10 to 20 miles per hour. Walkers are also a great family horse and most have calm temperaments.

Rocky Mountain Horse

If you want looks and a smooth ride, then this breed is for you! Rocky Mountain Horses commonly have a gorgeous chocolate color and contrasting blonde mane and tail. They do come in other colors, such as palomino, bay, black, and chestnut. Developed in Kentucky, these horses are primarily used for trail riding, competing, and even pulling.

Paso Fino

Though short in statue at 13 to 15 hands, this breed is powerful! They have three incredible gaits- the paso fino, paso corto, and paso largo. Their movement is very distinct. Foals can even be seen doing the unique gaits shortly after birth. It comes naturally to them! In competitions, the rider and horse travel on a wood platform. This allows the judge to hear their footfalls.

As the name suggests, this horse originated in Missouri. They have the ability to cover long distances and go over a variety of terrain. They’re not only quick, but smooth! Instead of a normal two-beat trot, this breed has a four-beat movement. These all-round farm horses are a pleasure to work with!

 

Icelandic Horse

Developed in Iceland, this breed stands at pony height. They’re usually between 13 and 14 hands. These horses are a five-gaited breed. They have a four-beat lateral ambling gait known as the tölt. Not only is it ground covering, but it’s also smooth and easy to ride. They can be found in 22 different countries!

 

American Saddlebred

With a history that dates back to the 18th century, Saddlebreds were frequently used by generals in the Civil War. They have a four-beat ambling gait, which is comfortable to ride. Additionally, this breed has a high tail carriage and elegant statue. They’re usually between 15 and 16 hands.
